YouTube Music has introduced a new feature that allows users to customize their playlist cover art using AI image generation. With this update, available initially to English-language users in the US, listeners can now create unique visuals to represent their personal playlists instead of relying on YouTube's default autogenerated covers.
To access the feature, simply tap the pencil icon on a playlist's existing cover art. You'll then be asked to select a theme like "animals" or "nature" and then asked to submit specific prompt like "owl in night sky" or "sunset beach." After confirming your prompt, YouTube will then generate several AI images for you to select from.
YouTube says the feature will expand to non-English speaking users and additional countries over time. It joins a growing number of music apps embracing AI to enhance personalized user experiences.
Allowing users AI-assisted creative tools could help them feel more connected with the content they curate. Music fans can now visually capture the spirit of playlists devoted to specific artists, eras, or moods.
