San Francisco startup Jasper has acquired Clipdrop, an AI image creation and editing platform, from Stability AI. The deal, announced Tuesday, allows Jasper to expand its capacity to serve as a comprehensive marketing copilot for enterprise teams.
Founded in 2020 by Google alumni, Clipdrop is used by millions of creative professionals to edit images, generate new visual content, and develop countless variations in size, detail and style. Integrating this technology into Jasper advances the company’s goal of becoming the most robust end-to-end marketing automation platform on the market.
It's intriguing to note that Jasper's acquisition of Clipdrop comes less than a year after Stability AI had itself acquired the platform in March 2023. This acquisition was aimed at leveraging Stability AI's advanced AI models and computing power to enhance Clipdrop's imaging capabilities. However, with Jasper's focus specifically on multimodal marketing automation, it seems Clipdrop has found a more natural fit to integrate its technology. The quick turnover illustrates the rapidly evolving landscape in AI tools and applications, with startups actively consolidating the most promising innovations for their respective domains."
“Marketing is visual,” said Jasper CEO Timothy Young. “Adding Clipdrop will progress our vision to be the most comprehensive marketing copilot, enabling enterprises to achieve more personalized, informed and optimized strategies across every format and channel.”
The Clipdrop team, including co-founders Cyril Diagne, Damien Henry and Jonathan Blanchet, joins Jasper immediately. They will continue leading image creation research and innovation from the company’s new Paris headquarters.
Jasper is eager to contribute to Paris’ thriving AI community, explained Young. This European expansion also supports Jasper’s plans to grow its global talent pool and customer base.
“We’re thrilled to see Clipdrop expand by joining Jasper,” said Stability AI CEO Emad Mostaque, who will keep partnering with Clipdrop on research. “There are natural synergies between the two companies in creating the best multimodal platform for marketers.”
Henry will take on a larger research role across Jasper’s entire product suite. The acquisition closed February 20, though financial terms were not disclosed. Enterprise users can already access Clipdrop functionalities via Jasper’s API.
