Medical technology startup Mendaera has raised $24 million in Series A funding, spotlighting their ambitions to reshape medical interventions with pioneering technology.
The financing round was led by Lux Capital, with contributions from Founders Fund, Operator Partners, and Allen & Company. Intuitive Surgical and Auris Health founder Dr. Fred Moll and former U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey also participated.
Under the adept leadership of CEO Josh DeFonzo, Mendaera is charting an ambitious course. The company has fashioned a platform that combines real-time imaging, state-of-the-art robotics, and AI. This fusion not only promises precision in interventions but also consistency. Beyond this, Mendaera is focusing on cultivating a collaborative ecosystem. By partnering with entities specializing in imaging and instrumentation, the firm hopes to hasten the adoption of minimally invasive medical care.
The company will use the new funds to accelerate growth and manufacturing in preparation for FDA clearance and product launch. They have wrapped up their research and design phase and are neck-deep in development. The company also announced its expansion into a production facility to support future growth and fine-tune its operational efficacy.
Reflecting on the journey so far, CEO Josh DeFonzo expressed, "Our team's relentless dedication has birthed a novel category in robotic technology, primed to redefine patient care. We perceive a vast expanse awaiting exploration, holding the potential to elevate intervention accessibility."
Such sentiments were echoed by Dr. Fred Moll, who commented on the promising horizon of healthcare robotics. He lauded Mendaera's unique approach, stressing its potential to redefine the paradigms of care delivery.
“Among the innovators in the field, Mendaera’s efforts to make robotics commonplace earlier in the healthcare continuum are unique and can potentially change the future of care delivery.” Dr. Fred Moll
Lux Capital's Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Peter Hebert, elucidated on the promising ensemble of talent and technology at Mendaera. Reminiscing on prior collaborations with DeFonzo at Auris Health, he said, "Armed with unparalleled tech, driven entrepreneurs have the power to conceive transformative products. We are confident in DeFonzo's capability to once again shape a trailblazing healthcare entity, poised to reorient both provider workflows and patient experiences."
